Coca-Cola event which has helped 63 Dundee women start businesses

Local MSP Jenny Marra is set to launch the latest edition of an event that celebrates female entrepreneurs from across Dundee.

The Coca-Cola 5by20 Exhibition and Trade Show will feature leading businesswomen speaking about their work before 40 local firms sell their wares at an open marketplace.

Taking place at Apex City Quay Hotel and Spa today, the speakers’ event will run from 10am-noon.

It will feature speakers including Councillor Lynne Short and Alison Henderson, chief executive of Dundee and Angus Chamber of Commerce.

Carrie Shannon, founder of the Gin Fest and Zoe Forbes, owner of SweetPea Cafe in Broughty Ferry, will also share their stories.

Organisers hope to welcome 520 people through the doors of the afternoon marketplace at the Apex, which runs from 12.30-5pm.

Every visitor to the market will receive a free Coca-Cola goody bag, with prize draws and raffles running throughout the afternoon.

Angie Foreman, programme director, said the Coca-Cola 5by20 Dundee programme had helped 110 women, including 63 who have since launched their own businesses.

She said: “In just 20 months, it’s been absolutely fantastic to see the enthusiasm, support and commitment shown by a host of businesses and other organisations throughout Dundee and Scotland as a whole.

“I would very much encourage the local community to embrace and support this event.
