Local Barber pursues her dream with the help of Coca Cola 5by20 Programme
Coca Cola’s 5by20 Business and Enterprise programme is set to see another success story as entrepreneur Amy Wilson launches “Discovery Barbers” Amy who is passionate about barbering, aims to provide high fashion, affordable cuts to gents of all ages.
Amy’s enthusiasm and drive has been greatly supported by her family, friends and clients – however, when it came to a running a business Amy felt she needed additional advice. Amy discovered the Coca-Cola 5by20 Dundee Programme on Facebook and decided to approach the Programme Director Angie Foreman.
The Coca Cola 5by20 programme is part of a global initiative set to create 5 million female entrepreneurs by 2020.The programme sets out to economically empower women offering them practical support and training throughout all stages of their business development.
Dundee is the first city within Western Europe to be introduced to the programme which has been greatly received by the city’s ambitious female entrepreneurs – including Amy.
Inclusivity is extremely important to Amy, particularly for students and families also being a mum, Amy understands how daunting a trip to the barbers for parents and young children can be. Amy has combined her passions for barbering and parenting to make the experience exciting and engaging for them.
“Getting the shop up and running initially seemed easy, until I had to look into the accounting, legal and other aspects of starting a business which I had no experience in.”
“Angie has provided me with so many contacts and has made me feel so much more confident. It’s great having the support from family and friend’s but I wouldn’t be where I am now without Angie’s expertise.”
The programme which is now in partnership with Dundee and Angus Chamber of Commerce is set to run it’s one-week intensive course “Fast Track to Business Success” on the 12th of February.
“Seeing Amy in her own premise doing the job she loves is just brilliant, she has bravely taken the right steps to begin her dream, it has been a pleasure supporting her”. Dundee has an abundance of female talent and our role is to help them turn their vision into their reality.” – Angie Foreman, Programme Director.
